From launching a community site for Tamil NRIs while working in United States, Murugavel has had a long innings in matchmaking. The potential in the idea of integrating matchmaking with technology led to the launch of TamilMatrimony first and then BharatMatrimony. The fact that he found his wife Deepa, through his own matchmaking site is proof of his belief in his own products.

A graduate in Statistics from Presidency College, Chennai he earned his Masters in Computer Application from the University of Madras. His entrepreneurial success continues to win him many accolades and honours.

  • The Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce honoured him as one of the Top 5 Asian Indian Businessmen in the US below the age of 35.
  • He was also honoured by the India Today Group as the "Business Icon of the Year.”
  • He was nominated twice by The Economic Times for the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award.
  • Besides being awarded Digital Entrepreneur of the Year by WAT, he was also Chairman Emeritus of the IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India). .
  • He was elected Chairman of CII - Chennai Zone for 2022-23.
